| Thunderstorm

The heavy pitter patter of the steady driving rain
is hypnotic; the low rumbling is relaxing; the thunderous explosions
jump out at you while the baby sleeps soundly. 70-minutes
Today is a hot, muggy day.
You lay flat near an open window as an afternoon summer
thunderstorm rolls in. The
smell of rain accompanies a cool breeze interrupting the heat.
Large drops of rain begin to fall from the clouds.
A gust of fresh air through the window sprays you with droplets
of water. As the wind whips up, the heavens unleash a raging shower.
Thunder crashes and rolls around the sky, then booms, shaking the
rafters. Sharp bursts
nearby are followed by distant rumbling far away.
Lightning flashes, succeded by a startling tandem explosion of
thunder. The summer storm
is all around you, though violent and percussive, it soothes and calms
you.

Duck Creek

Unwind to the gently burbling waters
of Duck Creek as it rushes
to become One with the
mighty Mississippi River.
The mesmerizing buzz of cicadas
rising and falling provides a
backdrop punctuated by the
mildly dissonant cry
of a train whistle,
an airplane making its way
across the lazy summer sky.
A nearby crow banters angrily.
A frog creeps through the brush
and plops into the running waters
as Duck Creek surges
to its ultimate heaven. |
